Hello! My name is Adrianna Avery. It is an honor to be here today. I
arrived in Japan
on July 26th and I am very happy and excited to be here in Fukuchiyama. I am from
Wisconsin in America. Wisconsin is in the north central part of America,
near the Great
Lakes. In Wisconsin, I was a private piano teacher and a receptionist
at the University
of Milwaukee. I come from a big family, so living alone is very different
from what I am
used to in Wisconsin. In my free time, some things I like to do are draw,
read, travel
and cook. I am looking forward to doing many of the same things in Japan,
especially
travelling.
So far, I have enjoyed living in Japan. I like nature and mountains and
I think it is
beautiful here in Fukuchiyama. Wisconsin also has beautiful nature, but
I am from the
city of Milwaukee, so I do not see it so often. It is hotter and more
humid in
Fukuchiyama than in Wisconsin, but it is okay because I have air conditioning
in my
apartment. Everyone I have met in Fukuchiyama is very friendly. The principals,
teachers, office staff, and my neighbors have all been very helpful as I try to settle
into my apartment and living in this community.
On August 15th, I saw the fireworks in Fukuchiyama. They were amazing !
In Wisconsin, they last only 20 minutes. That is one of the many differences
between
my city and Fukuchiyama. This year, I hope to speak English with all of
the students,
but also share about my culture as well as learn about the culture and
history of
Japan. I also would like to learn Japanese including many kanji.
I look forward to working with all of you and I hope to learn from you
as well. I have
enjoyed my time here so far and hope that this adventure will continue
to be exciting
and a rewarding experience which I will never forget. Thank you so much
for this
opportunity to be a part of Fukuchiyama High School this year. I am grateful
to be here
and have this experience in one of the most beautiful and culturally rich
prefectures in
Japan! Thank you.
